Mission Statement
The purpose of Havelock Community Missionary Baptist Church is to advance God's Kingdom by ministering to the needs of the total person (i.e., the body, soul and spirit) with a specific emphasis on ministering to the needs of children and youth. Even though we have numerous other ministries to facilitate meeting the spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental needs of our congregation, we also facilitate ministries to help children and youth experience the love of God, to ensure they receive biblically sound instruction, to develop their ministry gift, and employ those gifts through participation in the ministry and in service to others. As Christians we are the salt of the earth and the light of the world; therefore we will advance the Kingdom of God by being a light in the community and in a dark world. Matthew 5:13-16. |
Our History
On February 23, 1993 Rev. Larry D. Lenoir Sr. & Rev. Alexander Bell met with four other individuals to discuss the feasibility of establishing a missionary Baptist ministry in Havelock, North Carolina. All attendees agreed to work under the leadership of Rev. Larry D. Lenoir Sr. as pastor and Rev. Alexander Bell as assistant pastor to organize a ministry in Havelock to meet the needs of the total person with a particular emphasis on ministering to children and youth. On March 9,1993 Havelock Community Missionary Baptist Church was selected as the official name for this ministry. God blessed the ministry and on the 13th of June 1993, the right hand of fellowship was given to 14 members. On August 28, 1994 the first Deacons were ordained to serve the needs of the membership and to provide support to the pastor. As the ministry prayed for doors to open, in April of 1994, Mr. Coley Wallace agreed to sell the Church 4 acres of land for the construction of our first building. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on December 10, 1995 and on the 24th day of February 1996 the footing for the new building that would consist of five classrooms and a fellowship hall that would be used for our sanctuary was dug. Between April and June of 1996 mission teams raised the wall, roofed and bricked the building and did finishing work. On the 6th of October 1996 the new building and land were dedicated to the Lord for His use and glory and we were truly thankful for a facility that would allow us to minister to children and youth in age appropriate classroom settings. During the midst of a pastoral leadership change, God sent College Street Baptist Church from Walhalla, SC to conduct Vacation Bible School. During their visit, they began to discuss returning in the summer of 2006 to construct our sanctuary. Before College Street departed, they committed to pray about their vision to ensure it was aligned with God's will and asked Havelock Community Missionary Baptist Church to do the same. In February 2006 Deacon Needham Parks and Mr. Randy McManamay began the initial planning for the construction of our sanctuary. On the 16th of March 2007, the sanctuary was completed and dedicated to the Lord. The next month, on April 29, 2007, Havelock Community Missionary Baptist Church called its second pastor, Rev. Dwayne Mandell Shy Sr., who served as pastor until October 27, 2019. |
